Hundreds of systems of beating the races have been developed and promoted from the beginning. Based upon a limited number of handicapping factors or a slice of the larger game, several of them can be seductive and work well enough for a time. None of them work all of the time and even persistently enough to throw profits over time. That's because numerous factors influence the outcomes of races. Their relative importance varies from situation to situation and the relations among the factors are multitudinous--it's an analytical game, not very susceptible to rigid rules. Systems are composed of rigid rules, to be applied faithfully again and again. Flexible thinking beats rigid rules at the races. Learn to handicap effectively and forget about finding the system that beats the races. MAXIM The only secret of beating the races is to develop the knowledge, skill, and experience that contributes to effective play and to apply what you know as intelligently and consistently as you can. This is a game of knowledge and skill. Not only can skillful players win, the most skillful will be generously rewarded for their time and effort. Probably the very best handicappers are those who have learned the most and make it a point to apply everything they know to every race they play. |
