Claiming horses transferring from the specified claiming levels to the corresponding allowance conditions during late fall and winter can sometimes clobber the chronic nonwinners they regularly challenge there.
Recreational handicappers can adhere to these two guidelines:

1. Beginning mid-fall, accept Impressive older claiming horses in preliminary nonwinners allowance races, provided no impressively improving, nicely bred, lightly raced, three-year-olds enter the fray and figure to dispose of the eligible opposition.
2. During winter, January thru April, if the lightly-raced 4Yos are absent, consisent claiming horses can win NW1X and NW2X allowance races for older horses, 4up.
